History of Fullerton, CA

Fullerton, California, is a city located in northern Orange County. It was founded in 1887 by George and Edward Amerige, brothers who had immigrated from Germany to the United States earlier that same decade. The city grew rapidly during the two decades following its incorporation on April 16, 1888, to become one of the largest cities in Orange County.

The original inhabitants of what is now cal state Fullerton were native Tongva (Gabrielino) people who lived close to downtown Fullerton and along the western bank of the old Spanish land grant, Rancho San Juan Cajon de Santa Ana.

The city was founded long before the region was given its name of Orange County. The land, originally part of Rancho San Juan Cajon de Santa Ana, was given to José Antonio Andres Sepúlveda by the Spanish King Carlos III in 1784.
